As one of the longest-running scripted television programs in the world, it has aired nearly every weekday since its debut on November 8th, 1965, and has subsequently been syndicated the many countries around the world. You will probably be disappointed if you buy this, so this is just a warning that the book is incomplete.Screen Gems (1965–74) Columbia Pictures Television (1974–2001)ĭays of Our Lives is an American daytime soap that is broadcast on the NBC television network. I tell you, any long term Days fan would have written a better, more accurate, more readable book than this and I now question the author's motive, or whether she just got exhausted and published it before it was finished. But that could have been a magazine article. The only really useful thing in the book is the interviews the author had with some of the actors. The storylines which are amazing when you watch them just do not transfer to the printed page when told in such an offhand manner.

It's dry and spartan and stingy with plot details. I just do not get the rave reviews I read elsewhere, and I can't remember where - some soap opera forum said this was more accurate than the other books on the market. This is just one small example of how the author leaves out important details. As Nurse Honeycutt is one of the most amoral villains ever on the show, it's an egregious omission from the book. This is in the digest summary, and it it completely left out of this history of Days.

Calliope notices the label on the bottle and stops her. For example: on the island after the plane crash, Nurse Honeycutt tries to kill Hope with insulin. Although they still have a few errors (probably because they go by the script which sometimes changed before it went to press), they include all the details. For fans who want to revisit old storylines, your best bet is to read the Soap Opera Digest summaries online. As far as I can tell, there is no such book yet. I chose this one carefully and was still let down. I wonder if anyone will ever compile a real history of the show. It's not encyclopedic and it leaves out a lot of details. It's fine for someone who wants to read a very brief, bare bones summary of the show. Please, no snide comments about how this is good for what it is. Maybe then the writer would have realized she put something in the wrong place. For one thing, it would not have cost anything to put the dates of each storyline in the margins or the headings. This is annoying for long time viewers who actually know the dates of some of these events. The material is presented as a chronological history of the show, and it's written like a narrative, yet the breezy summaries of various storylines are sometimes told out of order. Update: I have to lower my rating to 2 stars after coming across inaccuracies and realizing how slapdash this book really is. But photos of some of the main characters would have been helpful. I'm not asking for a picture book or I would have ordered one of those.

It's just not a reference book you can flip through.

The free flowing narrative of the stories should have had headings, broken down into major storylines. I really hoped for a more encyclopedic work. It is interesting to read backstage stories from the actors and producers, and it is handy to have a summary of 29 years of the plots, but this is as far as it goes.

This was said to be the most accurate and thorough history of the show up to 1994. I rate this as good but not a complete history by any means.
